From Zürich in 1988 to Nanjing in 2027 — twenty symposia dedicated to the science, technology and application of magnetic bearings.
The 20th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings (ISMB20) will be held from 16 to 19 August 2027 in Nanjing, China. ISMB is an international forum for academic exchange on magnetic levitation and related technologies, bringing together experts and representatives from universities, research institutes, equipment manufacturers, industrial users, and other relevant organizations. Focusing on new methods, technologies, and applications in magnetic bearings and equipment incorporating magnetic force control, the symposium provides a platform to showcase innovative research, share engineering experience, and explore opportunities for industrial collaboration. Since its inception in 1988, ISMB has been held every two years, fostering international exchange and collaboration in the field of magnetic bearings. As the technology advances, applications of magnetic bearings continue to expand across energy and power, petrochemicals, bioengineering, refrigeration, and thermal management. In recent years, the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) computing infrastructure has placed greater demands on the energy efficiency and reliability of data center cooling systems, creating new application opportunities for equipment such as magnetic bearing compressors and chillers.
